Behind the collections

Discover The LHL Lighting Collection

Lighting has always been one of the most transformative elements in my design process. It has the ability to alter not just how a room looks, but how it feels- softening architectural lines, creating atmosphere, and drawing the eye to details that might otherwise be overlooked. When I designed and developed the Laura Hammett Living lighting collection, I wanted each piece to do more than simply illuminate. They had to bring a richness of materiality and proportion that would quietly elevate a room.

I have always been drawn to the warmth of antique brass, which feels both vintage and modern, therefore has a certain timeless quality. Paired with fluted champagne glass, it takes on an almost jewellery-like feel, elegant, tactile, and beautifully versatile. The Ruben Wall Light is a favourite example of this with its ribbed glass refracting light into subtle movement. When illuminated, it adds depth and texture to a hallway or bathroom, creating a layered glow which feels so inviting.

Chandeliers and pendants, by contrast, need a sense of presence while still maintaining elegance and proportional balance. The Estate Pendant captures this beautifully. Its classic silhouette references traditional British design, but the refined detailing keeps it feeling contemporary. I often recommend using it over a dining table, where it anchors the space and creates intimacy, or in multiples over a kitchen island where its scale and proportion can create rhythm in a room without overwhelming it.

With ceiling lights, I’ve loved designing pieces which deliver impact and that create that real ‘wow’ moment, the Audelia and Lumiera pendants are testament to this. They are sister designs, one in hand- forged antique brass and the other made from hand-blown, gold-flecked glass. They are spectacular pieces of art with delicate individual branches and great billowing leaves in a beautiful dense cluster. They truly bring a dining room alive when placed over a dining table.

A detail I was particularly keen to incorporate into the collection was the use of diffusers. Many of the designs include them, to soften and even out the light. It’s a feature that makes such a difference in practice. Rather than a harsh glare, diffusers cast a beautifully consistent glow, allowing the fittings to enhance a space without dominating it. For me, this is where lighting moves from functional to atmospheric- it’s the difference between a room that simply works, and one that truly feels lived in.

Another consideration was versatility across rooms. Some of our wall and ceiling lights are designed with IP ratings, making them suitable not only for living rooms and bedrooms, but also for bathrooms and utility spaces where additional safety is required. I love how these designs allow continuity throughout the home- you can carry the same elegant finishes from the hallway to the powder room, creating a seamless flow.

The collection is designed to encourage layering. Wall lights set the tone, pendants create focus, and floor or table lamps add warmth and flexibility. This approach allows a room to shift seamlessly from bright functionality during the day to soft, atmospheric light in the evening. All of the pieces are also dimmable, which is something I consider essential - it’s this adjustability that allows lighting to really shape the mood of a space.

This Autumn, I’m especially excited to introduce some new designs to the collection. Pieces such as the Delta Pendant and the Beau Wall Light bring new materials and proportionality into play, offering even more versatility when layering lighting throughout a home. They’re designed to feel at once distinctive and harmonious with the existing range, ensuring that each piece can be used alone as a statement or combined for a cohesive scheme.

Every detail, from the suede lining of all lamp bases to the subtle hand-finished patinas, was considered to ensure longevity as well as sublime beauty in a layered lighting scheme. These are pieces that are made to last, to be touched, and to be lived with every day. For me, lighting should never feel like an afterthought, it’s part of the architecture of the home, and ultimately, part of the experience of living within it.
